A dead body was found by police at New York Giant’s defensive back Janoris Jenkins home, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. The identity of the victim was discovered to be 25-year-old Roosevelt Rene who happened to be a family friend of Jenkins.

Multiple sources, including the Giants, told the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that to their knowledge, Janoris Jenkin’s is currently in Florida. The cause of death of the victim has still been unannounced but Garafolo reports that:

“police are investigating a possible strangulation/suffocation

It has been reported by ESPN that Jenkins is aware of the investigation. When the body was discovered, Jenkins was not present. The residence of Janoris Jenkins is located in Fair Lawn, 10 miles north of MetLife Stadium. The Association Press have indicated that Janoris Jenkins has lived in the home for two years. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office have claimed that Rene was living in Jenkins home recently, per CBSsports.com.

The 29-year-old is entering his seventh year in the NFL. The 2016 Pro Bowler is entering his third season with the Giants and is under contract until 2020.  He has accumulated a career-total of 337 combined tackles, two sacks, 76 passes defended, 16 interceptions and seven interceptions returned for a touchdown. Could this mean trouble for Jenkins and the Giants? Jenkins carries a cap hit of $13 million going into the 2018 season.

The investigation is still ongoing. In addition, a spokesperson for the New York Giant’s told Pelissero that:

“We are aware of and monitoring the situation”
