“Listen up, DUMMY!” – Eli Drake
Impact Wrestling has officially announced that Eli Drake has signed a contract extension to remain in the promotion for the foreseeable future. This news comes amid news that Drake’s contract was set to expire around Slammiversary, one of Impact’s biggest PPVs of the year.
When news initially broke regarding Drake’s contract expiring, rumors began running rampant that Drake was headed to WWE. His departure would’ve followed the losses of Bobby Lashley, EC3, Drew Galloway (Drew McIntyre), which were major departures from Impact’s depleted roster.
Eli Drake is one of Impact’s biggest stars in recent history, capturing the promotion’s King of the Mountain Championship before skyrocketing to main-event status by winning the World Championship in a Gauntlet for the Gold Battle Royale on Impact. Drake held the title for 146 days before he lost the title to a returning Austin Aries, but Drake remained in the championship picture throughout the spring.
While there is no timetable regarding the length of the extension at the time of this writing, this is a sign of faith from Impact that the company sees major potential in Drake, who is prominently featured as one of their biggest main event players at this time.
“….and that’s just a fact of life!” – Eli Drake
