New Orleans Saints’ rookie defensive end Marcus Davenport suffered a thumb injury and will undergo surgery. According to reports from NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Davenport will be in a cast for approximately three weeks after surgery, and may potentially take longer to heal after the cast is removed. Davenport is expected to participate in mandatory mini camp before surgery. Rapoport also added that Davenport should be fine to participate in training camp.

The Saints had traded up for UTSA’s defensive lineman Marcus Davenport – selecting him 14th overall. They traded a 2018 first round pick (27th overall), 2019 first round pick, and a 2019 fifth round pick to the Green Bay Packers as a result.

The injury has been considered minor so it should not hinder Davenport’s ability in the future. The Saints will look for him to make a huge impact on the defensive line for the upcoming season.
