At one point, Diana Taurasi was driving to the basket against the New York Liberty on Tuesday night and was fouled. She went on to convert the and-one to become the first player in WNBA history to reach 8,000 points.
What better place to have that milestone occur other than Madison Square Garden?
Taurasi is already the WNBA’s all time leading scorer as she had recently passed Tina Thompson who sits at 7,488.
Here’s some much deserved recognition for Diana Taurasi.
In 2004, Taurasi was drafted by the Mercury number one overall and has basically dominated the WNBA ever since. She leads the Mercury franchise in 16 all-time categories, has three championships and has an MVP and multiple Finals MVP awards.
All she’s been doing for the best of the past two decades is winning, dating back to her days at the University of Connecticut.
Only 8 games were lost on her watch out of a 147 total games played there and she lead the Huskies to 3 straight National Championship titles.
There so much more that could be said about Taurasi; like her 6 Euroleague championships, or her four gold medals, undoubtedly the influence she’s had personally on the WNBA will be forever lasting.
