UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will defend his title for the second time against surging #1 contender Brian Ortega. The bout is scheduled to take place at UFC 226 on July 7th. It will co-headline with the heavyweight title fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.
In Holloway’s last fight, he destroyed the former champ Jose Aldo for the second straight time. In their rematch It was obvious from the beginning that Aldo had no answer for the speed of Max. The champ battered Jose for the better part of 2 and a half rounds. In the latter stages of round 3 Holloway ended the fight in devastating fashion. Finishing Aldo, the former champ, in worse fashion than in their first meeting.
The challenger Brian Ortega is riding high after his emphatic knock out of Frankie Edgar earlier this year. It was the first time Edgar had ever been finished in his pro MMA career. Ortega is undefeated and ALL of his wins have come by way of finish. His BJJ makes him a nightmare for any man, and his striking is only getting better. He is a problem for any man in the 145lb division.
This WILL be the best featherweight title fight of all time. July 7th we will find out who the best featherweight in the world is. I will need months to break this down and get a prediction. To me this is as even as it gets, and I am beyond stoked to watch these savages collide.
