On the UFC Unfiltered podcast, UFC president Dana White has confirmed Nate Diaz vs Georges St. Pierre is in the works. The rumors have been circulating for weeks now. The man himself has confirmed they are in talks. The fight would happen at lightweight(155lbs), and would be the first time St. Pierre has ever fought at that weight professionally.

This could be the biggest fight of the year, between two grappling experts; GSP being the better wrestler, Diaz hands down has the better Jiu-Jitsu. Both striking games are fairly decent, although Diaz to me would have the edge. GSP’s boxing was sharp in his last fight when he won the UFC middleweight title. The targeted date for this super fight would be in August at UFC 227.

Also, on the same podcast Dana White revealed another huge fight is in the works. Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold is moving up to Light-Heavyweight. His first opponent… #1 contender Alexander Gustafsson. The circulating rumors were that this fight would be for an interim title. Those are false.

In a perfect world, Dana White would like this fight to take place also at UFC 227. No official date has been set. This fight could possibly be a title eliminator. The only caveat to that is that current UFC light-heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier is friends/training partners with Rockhold.

Dana White was dropping bombs yesterday. When both of these fights happen it will make my year. Gus vs Rockhold will be a war. They have already started talking trash to each other over Twitter, fueling the fire that every hardcore fan wants to see. Diaz vs St. Pierre is a hardcore fan’s dream. I feel like GSP would win, but I also thought that Diaz would lose at UFC 196. He shocked the world when he choked out Conor McGregor. I can’t wait for UFC 227 now. It will be the fight of the year if these get added.
