The New York Knicks have been nothing but a laughing stock of the NBA over the most recent years. If it weren’t for drafting the likes of Kristaps Porzingis, who knows where they’d be.
Say trouble no more. The Knicks may have found the right guy to to blast this franchise back into relevancy again. League sources are saying that David Fizdale and the New York Knicks have agreed to a deal to make him their next head coach.
Fizdale is most recently known from last year’s playoff series against the Spurs following game 2, as the coach of the Memphis Grizzlies. He went on a rant about the bad the officiating was and went on to say the now famous line “Take that for data!”
David Fizdale had a very short stint with the Grizzlies, only coaching one full season. He lead them to the playoffs in the wild west his first year but, fell short in the first round to the Spurs.
He won 43 games in the 2016-2017 regular season, and after only 19 games to start this season, he was let go by the Grizzlies.
In such a short sample size we got to see his charisma, his intelligence as a coach and how he would go to bat for his players no matter what. All things that make for a perfect head coach for a re-building Knicks team.
We all know head coaching jobs can be gone in a second these days with franchises having less and less patience for success. Fizdale has experienced that first hand, and I think this time around he will be here to stay.
