Ricky Rubio’s veteran point guard savviness was needed in order to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder and advance to the second round of the postseason.
The 27 year old Spaniard averaged 14 points per game along with 7 rebounds, 7 assists and a little over one steal during the 6 game series against OKC. Among those games was a career first playoff triple double in game 3, with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
He left early in the final game of the series with a hamstring strain. This same injury caused him to miss a few games earlier this month.
The Jazz went on to win the game without him and clinched a second round berth against the Rockets.
Rubio is expected to be out for an estimated 10 days. This could possibly lead to him missing the series opener and being on limited minutes upon returning to the court.
Utah will be missing their premier distributor, as he leads the team in assists this postseason by at least 4 per game (Joe Ingles is second with 3.2). Backup point guard Dante Exum played only 9 minutes per game during the series.
It will be interesting to see how the Jazz match up with Houston without Rubio leading the back court and the offense. All eyes will be on the matchup between James Harden and Ricky Rubio, but I think that the Rubio/Chris Paul matchup will be just as important and exciting.
