UFC Atlantic City is a homecoming for two of the UFC’s best lightweights of all time. Frankie Edgar and Jim Miller are Jersey Staples, and I for one cannot wait to see them fight. This card is loaded from top to bottom with amazing fights! The Main Event will be two top 10 lightweights squaring off for potentially a shot at the title.
Jim Miller vs Dan Hooker: I like Dan Hooker, he’s a great young prospect… but this is Jim Miller’s homecoming. I see Jim Miller getting back to his BJJ roots and tapping Hooker in the second round.
Aljamain Sterling vs Brett Johns: In this last fight Brett Johns pulled off the second ever calf slicer submission in UFC history, but I doubt he gets a win here. Aljamain Sterling will be hunting desperately for a win, and I see Sterling winning a decision, using his striking to set up his takedowns and use ground control for 15 minutes.
David Branch vs Thiago Santos: I am thoroughly excited about this fight. Branch is 1-1 since returning to the UFC, whereas Santos is riding a four fight win streak, all by TKO. Branch is going to try to use his BJJ in this fight, but I don’t see it working. I see Santos stopping the takedown and using dirty boxing in close to hurt branch and finish him in the first round.
Chase Sherman vs Justin Willis: This fight could be the fight of the night. Both of these heavyweights love to scrap and knock people out. For me, this will come down to who is more technical in their approach. With that being said, I expect Sherman to get the KO win here in the third round after and excellent fight.
Frankie Edgar vs Cub Swanson: This is a redemption rematch for Cub. Frankie Edgar destroyed him in 2014 when they fought. I expect the same result. Frankie Edgar will bounce back from his latest loss with a huge win over Cub. I see Frankie dominating Cub once again and this time getting the TKO win in the third round.
Edson Barboza vs Kevin Lee: This fight will be the best of the night. These men are too exciting for this not to be a great fight. With that said, I don’t think Edson can hang with Kevin Lee. Edson for sure has the edge in the stand up, but Lee dominates with his wrestling. The better overall MMA fighter in my opinion is Kevin Lee. I expect to see Kevin use his wrestling only when he has to. I see Lee dragging Edson into the later rounds, using pressure and his wrestling when needed to shut down Edson’s Muay-Thai. My official prediction is Kevin Lee by TKO in the fourth round.
