All 8 playoff spots in the Eastern Conference have been claimed; but in the West, it’s far from over.
There are still 5 teams in the Western Conference battling for 4 spots to compete in the postseason, and it all comes down to the last 2 games of the season.
The 5 teams looking to seal their position in the playoffs are, in order: the New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Denver Nuggets.
Minnesota holds the tiebreaker over the Nuggets for the 8th spot in the West. The two teams will play each other on Wednesday to decide who gets it. All 3 of the other Western Conference teams must win their next match-up in order to avoid being in that battle for the bottom.
I predicted earlier in this year that this season’s playoffs would be one of the most intense postseasons that we have ever seen, based on this level of competition we are seeing. Never before have so many teams had to fight until the last minute of the last game of the season to ensure a playoff berth. That same intensity will carry over into the first series of the NBA Playoffs. These bottom teams in the West have fought too hard to exit in the first round. They’re all going to give it all they have until there’s nothing left to give.
Stay tuned to this week’s games to see the final results of this insane playoff hunt, it’s anybody’s game.
