The Oakland Raiders released punter Marquette King on Friday, a move that many are questioning the motive behind.
King was a Pro Bowl alternate last season, and was Second-Team All-Pro in 2016. He’s known for his on field antics and his flashy personality, something you don’t often see from a punter.
King is cut just two years into a five-year contract worth $16.5 million. He was set to make $2.9 million of that this upcoming season.
The undrafted punter was 6th in the NFL in total yards per punt last year, according to NFL.com, averaging 47.4 yards per attempt.
Without a doubt one of the top punters in the league, King should not be waiting long for another contract to come his way.
