The New York Giants had been rumored to be trading superstar Wide Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Now, supposedly they are not. Beckham has stated that he refuses to play without a contract extension, which the two sides do not seem to be close to a resolution on.
NFL Insider Ian Rapport reported that “Odell Beckham is not going to set foot on the field without a new contract agreed to, whether the Giants or whether anyone else”.
Beckham has been all over social media due to off the field issues. Videos have surfaced of him smoking, and also another video in which he got knocked out. Whether those are actually real is unknown. Regardless, it was still a distraction for the 3-13 Giants last year.
So what is really going to happen here? The answer all depends on what the Giants choose to do as a team moving forward. If they decide to go into a full rebuild then they will probably avoid paying him.
If they still have a young core they can work with, then OBJ becomes the centerpiece and gets paid accordingly.
Realistically, I see him being traded for a 10-15 pick in this years draft plus a third rounder this year and a second rounder next year. It’s a hefty price, but at the end of the day, he is still a superstar.
