Jake Arrieta is the most impactful pitcher still available in free-agency. The former Chicago Cubs ace has still not signed with anyone after the Cubs picked up Yu Darvish in the off-season, effectively ending Arrieta’s time with the Cubs.
While many teams have shown interest in the 6-foot 4-inch TCU Alumni, many have gone a different route. It seems as though one team, however, has continuously shown interest, and most likely will be striking a deal within the next week.
The Washington Nationals already have a solid pitching staff anchored by Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg. Scherzer is a two-time National League Cy Young Award winner in 2016 and 2017.
With the addition of Arrieta, they would be receiving the 2015 National League Cy Young Award winner, and a 2016 World Series Champion.
Arrieta has hurled an impressive 197 games, tallying 88 wins and 56 losses. A career 3.57 ERA, over 1,161 Innings Pitched. He has also blanked the opposing team for 1,070 of those innings. Last year alone he kept opposing hitters to a modest .235 average.
The former 2007 5th round pick from Farmington, Missouri is sure to be a great asset to any team who lands him.
